WildHorse Ranch Rescue - Meet the Foal

April 22, 2006

We are having a BIG FUNDRAISER and would like everyone to
join us and meet our new baby, Jewel.
Please bring your family, friends and co-workers.

Meet Jewel
Friday, April 28, 2006
6 - 9 pm
at WildHorse Ranch Rescue Gilbert Location
11811 S Lindsay Road
Between Elliot & Warner Roads in the Town of Gilbert
(Do not use online maps to find us. They give the wrong
directions.)

Also, thank you to those of you that sent in donations to
help us out with the new baby.
Some of the ways that you helped us:
Some of you sent $5, $50 and $100 and it all helps to
preserve our ranch so that we can continue to help horses
in need.

Here is an update on some our other horses:

Cannon is going on a Summer Vacation to a beautiful ranch
in the pines in New Mexico. We are 'packing his suitcase"
now so that he can have a nice trip in July and get out of
the Phoenix heat this summer.

Chief is still being treated for his abscess. Some of our
volunteers have really grown their skills with horse
handling by learning how to soak Chief's hoof and keep him
occupied with yummy treats.

Sam Wise has been ill lately and the vet will see him on
4/18/2006 (today). Sam Wise is an older Paint and he may
have cushings and/or ringbone. His owners were going to run
him through the auction and due to his medical condition,
he would have been purchased by killer buyers, but we took
him in and have tried to make his life as comfortable as
possible.

Diamond - Jewel's Mommy is doing wonderful and has the post
pregnancy body of a celebrity horse! She is a very
protective Mom but is learning to let little Jewel have
some freedom to run in the corral.

Derringer is perfect. His heart condition has not given him
any trouble at all. Everyone loves the US tattoo on his
shoulder. He's a very handsome horse.

Dunny has not been feeling too good. The vet will see him
on 4/18/2006 (today) and see what is ailing this 20 year
old ex-team penner. Dunny has arthritis but it seems to
have gotten worse. He wasn't able to attend the Pets911
event at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts this month
because of some shakiness in his hind quarters.

Granpas Charlee has been so excited to meet the baby,
Jewel. She loves to be near her and it seems to really
soothe Charlee. The volunteers have been taking Charlee for
visits to the 'nursery.' She is a doting Auntie to
Diamond's baby.

Jan the Wonder Mule was adopted quite a while ago and we
received a really cute story on her from her adoptive Mom.
See her story below:
"Sunday morning we had a big surprise! Everything turned
out ok thanks to Jan.
Early Sunday morning we had a knock on the door, neighbors
driving by stopped to let us know we should move the new
baby away from the other horses, because they we pawing at
her. New baby? We had a pregnant miniature mare, but she
wasn't showing any signs of foaling, so we let her out with
the other horses for the night.
My husband Jim reached the pasture first. There was Jan
standing over a new and very tiny mini filly. Jan would
not let the other horses come near the baby! Even Jim had
a hard time sneaking the baby away from Jan.
I got out there in time to see Jim running across the
pasture holding the new baby in his arms, with Jan in hot
pursuit and the entire herd right behind her.
We managed to get the new mom and baby together in a
separate pen and all is well. Baby at first thought Jan
was her mommy and kept trying to nuzzle with Jan through
the bars. For almost the entire day Jan kept her head
pressed against the bottom rail watching to make sure "her
baby" was doing ok. Jan let out a yell when I put betadine
on the umbilical cord or anyone came near the pen.
We now have a beautiful little red-haired miniature filly
with large white blaze on her face, healthy and happy
thanks to Jan!"

Twinkle Toes, a registered Arabian, is happy and content in
her new foster home with Susan Ruffini.

Thanks to all of you for your continued support of
WildHorse Ranch Rescue and our rescued herd.
